The Problem

The inefficient snack ordering process has a negative impact on user satisfaction and the overall movie-going experience.

Pain Points

The Goal

Design a snack ordering app that enhances the user experience, allowing users to pre-order snacks for pickup or in-seat delivery.

Research & Analysis

I have created a screener survey and conducted interviews with selected participants who meet the survey criteria. Through interviews, I am able to understand and empathize how the users feel and their needs. The target users of this app are the users who love to enjoy watching movies at the movie theater. According to the researches I have done, I have found that the long queue is not the only factor but there are more challenges that affect the users' interests when ordering snacks.

Competitive Analysis

To ensure our design solution was competitive and user-centered, we conducted a comprehensive competitive analysis focusing on GSC and GrabFood. These platforms were chosen due to their prominence in the entertainment and food delivery sectors, offering valuable insights into key features like menu navigation, ordering processes, pick-up or delivery options, and account management. This analysis was crucial in developing a solution that not only meets user needs but also offers a distinct competitive edge in the market.

User Persona 1 - Candy Chan

Candy Chan is a university student who pursues psychology and needs various options of snacks to share and enjoy with friends while watching a movie. It’s not enjoyable to eat the same snacks throughout the entire film.

User Persona 2 - Ruma Dashan

Ruma Dashan is health-conscious and time-conscious. When he arrives at the cinema, he prioritizes picking up his snacks promptly to avoid wasting time waiting in long queues, which might cause him to miss crucial movie scenes.

Journey Map

Ruma's journey map helps me to understand his order process so that I am able to design a friendly useful app to solve users' problems.

Key Takeaways

Impact:

The app makes users feel like Snackies thinks about how to meet their needs. According to System Usability Scale, as conducted, most users would use the app frequently as they always order snacks and need a user-friendly app for them to access.

What I learned:

While designing Snackies app, I learned that the first ideas for the app are only the beginning of the process. Usability studies and peer feedback influenced each iteration of the app's designs.

Next Steps:

1. Conduct another round of usability studies to validate whether the pain points user experienced have been effectively addressed.
2. Conduct more user research to determine any new areas of need.
3. Review, iterate and polish the visual design of Snackies app.
